Hovey Williams LLP is pleased to announce the election of Chandler Schmidt and Jaclyn Alcantara as partners. Their partnership election is effective January 1, 2025.

Their leadership and expertise will undoubtedly enhance our firm as we continue to grow and serve our clients. We look forward to the continued success and innovation they will bring to our team.”
Chandler is a registered patent attorney who guides clients in intellectual property procurement and enforcement. His practice extends to a wide variety of technologies and industries, including electronics, semiconductors, optics, power systems, electric motors, communication systems and antennas, software and computer-related inventions, and the mechanical arts.
Chandler’s specialties include the preparation, prosecution, and licensing of U.S. and foreign patent applications. He is also experienced in IP litigation and evaluations of IP portfolios, including the preparation of patentability, invalidity, and infringement opinions.
“I am honored to be promoted to partner at Hovey Williams LLP, a firm renowned for its deep institutional knowledge of intellectual property law,” said Chandler. “I look forward to bringing my perspective to the firm while upholding the traditions that have defined its long history of success.”
Jaclyn focuses her practice on intellectual property prosecution and counseling. Her patent prosecution experience includes the preparation and prosecution of electrical, electronic, audio, computer, software, communication, and mechanical patent applications, leaning heavily on her electrical engineering degree (with an emphasis in audio engineering). Specifically, she has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for aerospace technologies, manufacture of composite materials, factory robotics, GPS, agricultural equipment, hunting equipment, medical devices, and optical sensors.
Jaclyn also has experience with various post-issuance proceedings, such as drafting inter partes review petitions. Her practice includes patent infringement and validity analysis, patentability studies, intellectual property licensing and confidentiality agreements.
“I have enjoyed such a rich and fulfilling history with Hovey Williams, spanning nearly two decades, first as a patent analyst, then a patent agent, and now a patent attorney and partner,” said Jaclyn. “I am grateful for my kind and brilliant colleagues and mentors who helped shape me every step of the way on this journey. I am honored to join the ranks of our partners and to continue the work of protecting our clients’ most valuable assets – their intellectual property.”
Please join us in congratulating Chandler and Jaclyn on this well-deserved achievement.
